Nothing in Craig’s early life indicated that one day he would work in Smithville bending glass. He was born in northeast Ohio and went to college at Kent State where he studied math, physics, and a little drama. But when his classmates started getting shot he decided to change schools. That’s when he moved to Texas and went to Trinity University in San Antonio. There he studied drama and enjoyed the technical part of theatre. Somehow he wound up in Smithville working at PECO making curved glass primarily for china cabinets and playing around with a kiln – fusing and bending glass. He displayed work at Gallery 71, an artist cooperative – the same artist cooperative that quite a few of the artists showing at Mosaic were part of in the 70’s.
